Happy Christmas from the When Vikings Attack! Team
There is a phenomena described by serious mountaineers who, having finally struggled to the crest of a vertiginous peak, experience not the sense of elation and celebration that was perhaps visualised back at base camp, but instead a blank numbness; a complete inability to think anything at all. Bodies and minds are wracked with exhaustion and ravaged by hypoxia, to the point where mental faculties are reduced to those of a small child.
One might well wonder why anyone would choose to put themselves through this at all.
This is the closest I can come to describing the feeling of finishing the development of Clever Beans' first game, When Vikings Attack!
With bugs to fix across two hardware platforms (one of them brand new), a new technology (cross-play), eight SKUs (European, US, Asian and Japanese versions of each platform), six QA departments, 19 languages featuring five different alphabets, plus extra post-release functionality and features (watch this space!), finishing the project has sometimes felt like a Sisyphean task for our tiny team.
Now that the dust has settled, though, we're able to reflect on what we've achieved with a feeling of pride. We once again have time to get together to play our game and remind ourselves what great fun it really is, whether played alone or with a bunch of friends, new or old. We've had some great reviews, and more importantly, a fantastic response from gamers all over the world who have enjoyed the game.
We've also had a hell of a lot of fun along the way. Over the past year and a half we have built a great prototype, founded our company, secured a publishing deal, set up an office and built a small close-knit team who like to play together as well as work together. It's been a rollercoaster ride, and we've enjoyed (most of) it immensely.
We're now looking forward to the adventure we're going to have creating our next game, in 2013. This really is the most fun part of the whole process – back to the magic of experimentation, prototyping, and creation. We have another huge mountain to climb, and we hope you'll all come with us so you can see the view on the other side.

Happy Holidays from Naughty Dog!
As 2013 starts to dawn and we all know we survived the 2012 phenomenon we wanted to wish you a very happy holidays from Naughty Dog studio!
2012 was jam packed with breaking news about The Last of Us and fresh content reveals for Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. On the Uncharted 3 front, we recently announced our holiday items and we'll have even more content inbound in the New Year. Additionally, we have some very exciting information about multiplayer around the start of next year. Get ready for all the big news by checking back to the PlayStation blog and Naughty Dog blog once 2013 hits.
Speaking of 2013, there's a very special date you need have marked down if you haven't already: May 7, 2013. We're all working towards that date now as we announced that The Last of Us will be in stores globally May 7, 2013 during the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards. If you haven't been able to watch the Story trailer we released at the show, check it out now:
Over the holidays, our The Last of Us team will be hard at work marching towards achieving the next project milestone and making the game awesome. The rest of us will be doing research for upcoming work and assisting The Last of Us team as needed. We will all be enjoying some downtime with friends and family and those games we never got a chance to play or those amazing films we didn't yet get to see this year.
It's been a breathtaking year and we can't express how much your response and reactions to our games means to us. Munch’s Oddysee HD on PSN Today
Munch the Gabbit is now in HD! The team at Just Add Water, with help from the programming staff at Four Door Lemon, worked hard over the last 18 months to bring you an updated version of Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee on PS3.
Gamers met the crazy planet of Oddworld back on the original PlayStation, with Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus quickly becoming classics. If you played those games, you'll remember the reluctant hero's destiny to rescue his fellow Mudokons from corporate slavery at the hands of Glukkon Companies Rupture Farms and SoulStorm Brewery.
Munch first burst onto our screens in 2002 (on that other console that sounds like egg-fox), following in the footsteps of the now-classic Abe games. Another reluctant hero, the diminutive Munch, is the last of his kind. His mission: To escape from the evil Vykkers Labs, save all the lab animals and liberate a can of Gabbiar, using the eggs to get his species going again. All with the help of Abe, of course!
We have no doubt that one look at these screenshots will bring all those childhood memories rushing back. Just don't cry on us, though, or we'll get all emotional too.
So, what's new in Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee? Enhanced assets featuring fully remodeled characters, for one, as well as high-resolution textures for crisper-looking environment detail. We've also included new audio fit for PS3, DualShock 3-centric controls, unlockable art, and 46 Trophies — including a Platinum!
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD is now available on PS3 in North America, starting today. PS Vita owners won't have long to wait, with a version due out early next year.

The PlayStation Recap: What We’re Reading
Putting together this Recap is the last thing I’m doing before my holiday vacation officially begins, so forgive me if I keep it brief. I still love you, I just love gorging on Christmas cookies more.
We didn’t see it coming, but the first half of this week ended up being quite a doozy. We saw Marvel heroes return to LittleBigPlanet, Sonic and co. hit the portable tracks in Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed, map-exploring indie entry Knytt Underground rolled out on PSN and PS Vita, we landed some Angry Birds DLC (seriously, who saw that coming?)… and that’s not even addressing the top 10 listed below!
Let’s talk about that number 1 post though: The first-annual PlayStation.Blog Game of the Year Awards! We put a lot of time and passion into getting these awards set up, and you all responded in full force. Some of the categories were almost too close to call, but in the end your voices were heard and the winners chosen. Go take a look at the list, and see what PlayStation gamers chose as the best games of 2012.
As for what I’m playing this week, I have officially surrendered myself to the gaming gods at ATLUS, whose Persona 4 Golden refuses to let me go. I anticipate a large portion of my “family time” next week will be spent face-down in my PS Vita, looking for clues on the Midnight Channel and forging ever onward in the quest to max out my social links.
But enough about me. What do you plan on playing over the break? Maybe catch up on that backlog a bit?
